THE WAR in Afghanistan was weeks old and already it seemed the Special Boat Service had been left behind. An eight-man team attached to C Squadron was stuck in the rear in Mazar-i Sharif, the northern city already captured from the Taliban and some 100 miles from the impending, decisive battle in Kunduz.
