The Kansas City Chiefs lost one speedster and added another, signing former Packers' WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a 3-year, $ 30 million deal that could max out at $ 36 million based on incentives.
And, while he'll be asked to fill in a huge gap with Tyreek Hill out of the picture, he already knows what it's like to make the most of an elite QB, averaging nearly 18 yards per catch since entering the NFL in 2018.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling Raves About His New DealA fifth-round pick that entered the league without much praise or recognition, Valdes-Scantling took to Twitter to show how grateful he was for the opportunity:
"I could cry real tears right now. I got cut from my high school team as a freshman to signing a second contract in the NFL. Never let any person place a limitation on who you can be. THANK YOU GOD!!!Tyreek Hill Says It All Came Down To MoneyClearly, money is what makes the world go around and Tyreek Hill is well aware of that, as he recently admitted that he just couldn't reject such a lucrative offer from the Dolphins:
"It's tough but when somebody comes to you with a lot of money, it changes," Hill said, per ESPN "The feelings start to change. It definitely was tough, man. I definitely had one of those moments where I had to get in my car and just drive and think about the moments I had in KC … I even had a conversation with Pat (Mahomes), that's my brother for life. I know those guys are still gonna ball because they're Hall of Famers."Andy Reid Talks About HillAndy Reid is also aware of that, as he admitted that the Chiefs just needed to get his contract off the books to get more cap flexibility:
“I am happy for Tyreek, he has grown as a man and player here in Kansas City,” Reid said, as quoted by ProFootballTalk. “Myself, my staff and our organization appreciate all he did for our team. This move will also benefit the Chiefs, we now have cap space and additional draft picks to grow as a football team. I wish him well as he moves forward.”It's A New Era In KansasBesides Valdes-Scantling, the Chiefs will also hope that JuJu Smith-Schuster can draw some attention off Travis Kelce in the passing game:
“I am going to play with a future Hall of Fame QB, to play with one of the best to ever do it,” Smith-Schuster said. “My goal as a player is to win, so I’m going to Kansas City with the hopes of winning a Super Bowl.”It's a new era at Arrowhead and there will be plenty of pressure on Mahomes' shoulders, that's for sure.
