The Dallas Cowboys lost one of their top pass-catchers after trading Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. And even though CeeDee Lamb seems poised for a breakout year and James Washington will be a nice addition, it still feels like they're lacking offensive firepower.
Notably, there aren't many available top-tier players in free agency at this point in the offseason. But with Odell Beckham Jr. still without a team, the Cowboys should at least pick up the phone.
OBJ' Family Are Cowboys FansIt's not a secret that the Beckhams are diehard Cowboys fans, so there are obvious ties there, even despite his past in the NFC East with the New York Giants:
"All of my family grew up in Texas so they are all huge Cowboy fans. It has always been kind of a funny story with them as far as being in New York and them being in Dallas. I do not have any animosity, hate or rivalry with them," Beckham said last season."Odell Beckham Jr. could be on the move again, eventually. And if his family gets a vote on the future of the colorful NFL wide receiver?" reported Mike Fisher of Sports Illustrated. "His family would vote that OBJ joins the Dallas Cowboys."He Loves A&T StadiumMoreover, OBJ has also raved about AT&T Stadium and the atmosphere that Cowboys fans create in one of the most impressive buildings in the nation:
"It's amazing. It's an incredible environment, beautiful place. I'm always excited to play there," Beckham said, per Scott Preak. He Has A Nice Relationship With Dak And ZekeMoreover, OBJ grew close to both Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott over the past couple of years, and he's had nothing but praise for their development and impact in the league:
"Zeke was a guy who I was talking to before the season just because I know where he's at and what he's going to be going through, and I've seen it already with what he's already gone through," OBJ told the Dallas Moning News. "So just trying to give him an understanding of how everything works. I love it. I love to see Zeke out there celebrating. I love to see Dak out there with a smile. I played Dak in college. I've known him. We go back a little bit. So it really is great to see these guys doing their thing. You just want to minimize that this Sunday."He's Got To Prove His Worth AgainOBJ has proven to be one of the most impactful players in the NFL. The only issue is that he's struggled with career-jeopardizing injuries over the past couple of years, and that could drive multiple contenders away.
He's got to prove that he can stay on the field for a full season and is expected to sign a short-term deal on a team where he can have enough volume to get his legs back under him, and the Cowboys certainly fit that mold.
