SIR SALMAN RUSHDIE has been elevated to a Companion of Honour for his services to literature as the full list of the Queen’s Birthday Honours list was announced. After being knighted in 2007, the novelist said it was to his “great surprise and delight” to be recognised again by the monarchy. The honour comes after 74-year-old Rushdie revealed he was “lucky” to be alive after contracting COVID-19 back in 2020.
