NFL Rumors: Is DK Metcalf Trying To Force A Trade?

Just when it seemed like the Seattle Seahawks were ready to embark on a drama-free season, DK Metcalf has once again made the headlines.

The talented wideout is MIA during the team's minicamp and while they haven't made an official statement regarding his absence, it all points out that it's related to an impending contract extension.

Metcalf's Absence Is Unexcused

Metcalf was expected to show up and didn't reach out to the team to offer any sort of explanation. Now, whether they'll decide to fine him or not remains to be seen:

"According to multiple reports, Metcalf’s absence is unexcused. If he misses all three days of minicamp, he could be fined escalating amounts that would total just over $ 93,000," reported Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll did not speak to the media to confirm the nature of Metcalf’s absence or if the team plans to issue those fines."Could He Be On His Way Out?

Metcalf is currently nursing a foot injury so he wouldn't have partaken in on-field activities anyway. But as a player under contract, he was still expected to show up:

"Metcalf had foot surgery earlier this offseason, so he would not be doing on-field work if he had been at the team’s facility on Tuesday. He had been in attendance for voluntary work earlier in the offseason program, however, and any decision to miss time at this point is likely linked to his desire for a contract extension heading into his fourth NFL season," wrote Alper. He Denied Trade Rumors

Metcalf had already shut down all narratives about a potential trade. Following Russell Wilson's move to the Denver Broncos, he claimed he was ready to lead the franchise going forward:

"I'm going into Year 4, and I think it's time for me to step up and be a leader," he said. "It's my time in Seattle now. That's the way I look at it."How Would An Extension Look Like?

Metcalf hasn't proven to be on the same tier as Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, or Steffon Diggs, who recently broke the NFL's wideout market with massive contracts. Still, he's promising enough to at least seek a big payday:

"Considering his youth, rare physical talents, and impressive numbers to start his career, Metcalf and his agent should be pushing for a four-year pact worth between $ 100 and $ 120 million and north of $ 70 million in guarantees," wrote Corbin K. Smith of Sports Illustrated.

Now, whether the Seahawks will be willing to give him that much is anybody's guess.
