Packers’ 2nd-Rounder Christian Watson Is Getting Used To Aaron Rodgers And An NFL Offense

The Green Bay Packers needed to fill a big void in their offense. They lost Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the offseason and needed to give Aaron Rodgers a new set of weapons.

That's why they used their second-round pick on Christian Watson, one of the highest-ranked wideouts in this year's class.

He Wants To Impress Rodgers

Watson finally got the opportunity to catch passes from his QB 1. And, while he was slightly starstruck by getting to know the man himself, he hasn't left that stand in the way from going the extra mile to prove why he's here:

“Your head’s spinning a little bit, but you got to make sure you’re there doing everything right to be on the same page with him,” Watson said.  “When I saw him this morning it was weird just casually seeing him. Obviously, that’s something I gotta get used to, but it’s crazy to be here and play with him.”It's One Day At A Time

Watson is enjoying every day and trying to soak in as much information as he can. He's coming along quite well but he knows he's ways away from being ready to contribute:

“You gotta be perfect,” said Watson. “I think still have a long way to go in terms of being the player that I want to be and playing at the level that I want to play at, but I’m definitely adjusting each and every day, always taking it one day at a time. I definitely think I’m coming along great."Watson Has The Total Package

Watson's self-assessment may not be that far off. Even if he struggled with some drops early in minicamp, some of his veteran teammates have been quite surprised by his skill set and physical traits.

Randall Cobb, for instance, went as far as to say that he's got 'the total package' to be a star in the league:

“He has the total package. Just being around him for the past week, and seeing some of the things he can do, he has all the tools and he’s very gifted,” Cobb said of the rookie. How Will The Packers Fare?

But even if Watson is as good as advertised or even more, the Packers still need to add more firepower. They lost their top-two wideouts and expecting multiple rookies to be ready from day one may not be realistic.

That's why they could still sign a veteran wide receiver at some point in the season, with Julio Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. among their top two targets.
