Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is one of the NFL players who are highly expected to be moved before the start of the 2021 NFL season. Since January, Watson has been finding his way out of Space City, expressing his unhappiness over the direction the Texans are taking.
At first, the Texans were hesitant to move Watson, saying that they still considered him part of their long-term future. However, after he was involved in a huge controversy, the Texans are now open to trading Watson.
Deshaun Watson-To-Eagles Trade Heating Up
Despite the issues surrounding him, Watson is still receiving strong interest in the trade market. One of the teams that are heavily linked to Watson this summer is the Philadelphia Eagles. In a Twitter post, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports revealed that there’s an ongoing discussion between the Texans and the Eagles centered on the former No. 12 pick.
"Source: Talks are heating up between #Eagles and #Texans on a Deshaun Watson trade," Trapasso wrote. "Still some hurdles to get over. But both sides attempting to come to an agreement."
Eagles In Need Of A Franchise Quarterback
It wouldn’t be surprising if there’s really an ongoing negotiation between the Texans and the Eagles regarding a potential Watson trade. The Eagles may currently have Jalen Hurts on their roster, but the 22-year-old quarterback still lacks experience and have plenty of things that he needs to improve in his game.
Bringing a quarterback of Watson’s caliber to the City of Brotherly Love would elevate the Eagles’ status in the league and give them a realistic chance of challenging the Dak Prescott-led Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East.
Can The Eagles Pull A Deshaun Watson Trade?
Though the Eagles’ interest in Watson seems real, it remains a big question mark if they possess enough trade assets that can convince the Texans to send the veteran quarterback to Philadelphia. According to Mark Rosenstein of NJ.com, the Eagles only have two 2022 first-round selections that they could use to trade for Watson.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said on Twitter that the Texans want at least three first-round picks for Watson, while Chris Mortensen of ESPN revealed on his own post that Houston’s asking price is a combination of five first-round picks and starting-caliber players.
Deshaun Watson’s NFL Future Remains In Limbo
Meanwhile, unlike Trapasso’s revelations, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported that there has been a "little movement on the trade front" involving Watson. Though his talent on the field is undeniable, some of his potential suitors on the trade market are reportedly concerned about the crawling criminal investigation into Watson.
Watson is currently facing at least 22 civil lawsuits with allegations of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behavior. If the accusations against him are proven true, the NFL is expected to take action that could put his future in the league in jeopardy.
