Recently, Romo talked about New York Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson. Before he played in the Siegfried and Jensen Utah Open pro-am Thursday at Riverside Country Club, the retired NFL quarterback shared his insight on Wilson.
“I just think Zach has a rare ability," Romo said, as quoted by Deseret News. "I watched him his first preseason game and some other places and I can see certain things; he has a couple of special traits. God doesn’t give those gifts to very many people. I think, without knowing him, he is a hard worker and cares and loves the sport."

With Wilson, whom the Jets selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, yet to play his first official game in the NFL, Romo believes that most people don’t have an idea how good he really is. To give fans insight on what to expect from him, Romo decided to compare Wilson to some legendary quarterbacks in the NFL, including Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady.
When it comes to his ceiling, Romo said that Wilson has some "Patrick Mahomes crazy levels."
Jets Want To See Improvement With Zach Wilson’s Passing
With those words coming from a great quarterback like Romo, there’s no doubt that the future is bright for Wilson. However, as of now, the Jets are more worried about the present than the future. To make him one of the best quarterbacks in league history, the Jets want to address the issues on Wilson’s game as soon as possible.
In a recent interview with the New York Post, Jets head coach Robert Saleh said that he wants Wilson to learn to execute in the rhythm of the play and pass the ball quicker.
Are The Jets Contender In 2021 NFL Season?
If Wilson could learn how to execute their plays more efficiently, the Jets would undeniably become a team to watch out for in the 2021 NFL season. However, despite the improvements that Wilson could bring in their offense, most people still don’t see the Jets as a legitimate Super Bowl contender next year.
The 2021 NFL season is yet to start, but the Jets are already dealing with multiple injuries. Their biggest free-agent signing this summer, defensive end Carl Lawson, recently suffered a torn Achilles. Safety Zane Lewis is expected to miss the season with a torn patella tendon and sprained MCL, while wide receiver Denzel Mims is day-to-day after recently leaving the field with a hip injury.
