Betty White, a native of Chicago, was known for her contagious smile, everlasting glow, and loving heart. She was a goddess on-screen and knew exactly how to wow her adoring audience.
Unfortunately, the star actress passed away last year at the age of 99, leaving a lasting impact on the entertainment industry. In addition, she left behind some spectacular real estate, including an oceanfront mansion in Carmel, California, that has recently come up for sale for $ 7,950,000.
Betty And Her Husband Owned The HomeThe Golden Girls star and her husband, game-show host Allen Ludden purchased the renowned house for $ 170,000 in 1978. They built a luxury home, which they completed in 1981.
The project took about three years to complete. Sadly, Allen passed away before the couple could enjoy the property together. On the other hand, Betty spent the rest of her life at the seaside resort.
A Look Inside The Carmel EstateThe structure covers more than 3,600 square feet and has a view of the ocean. The Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, Ribera Beach, and Monastery Beach can all be seen from this property.
A storybook garden with abundant blossoms, trimmed shrubs, and a winding path grace the quarter-acre grounds. There is also a back gate and path leading to a sand beach. Since the house was erected, the same gardener maintained the grounds for stability and continuity.
The Estate Is A Reflection Of Betty And What She LovedThe space, which architect Richard Hicks designed, incorporates important elements of mid-century to modern designs. Wide-open areas, wood paneling, beamed ceilings, and walls of windows are just a few of the features.
According to listing agent Nicole Truszkowski of Sotheby's International Realty, the home's low-key design draws attention to the natural surroundings.
"It’s elegantly understated in terms of the home itself. It was designed to truly draw your attention to nature and the ocean, wildlife, and everything you see. I think it speaks to the owner of the home and the things she appreciated. The home is a reflection of that," Nicole explained about the house.
The Carmel Estate Was Betty's Favorite PlaceThe living areas expand outside to the decks, which overlook the gardens and sandy beach. The living room has glass walls and a fireplace. The dining area, which is adjacent to the kitchen, also has ocean views.
Nicole revealed, "While White spent the last years of her life at her Brentwood mansion in Los Angeles, this coastal getaway provided her a place to “recharge and rejuvenate."
She continued, "Spending time in Carmel was one of Betty’s favorite things to do. She enjoyed many treasured moments with her family and close friends. The home embodies the spirit of Betty and Allen."
A Worthy EstateSince Betty bought this home for $ 170,000 in the 1970s, real estate prices in this affluent neighborhood have skyrocketed. According to Realtor.com data, the median home list price is currently $ 2,195,000, with only 117 homes for sale.
The fact that an oceanfront home is being offered for the first time in over 40 years adds to the property's appeal.
Trustees reviewed bids on April 4, and buyers are not expected to submit a bid from the comfort of their own homes.
"You have to physically tour the property to submit an offer. If you really want to buy the property, hop on a plane, come, and look at it," Nicole said.
Nicole is convinced that once potential buyers see the property, they will be impressed—and this is not because of its ties to the iconic actress but because the home is simply spectacular on its own.
Betty's Carmel home is such a beautiful abode. The new owner will be making one of the best deals in purchasing the property.
