EXCLUSIVE: Writer Roger Morgan-Grenville wanted to experience wildlife loss first-hand. So in March last year, the 62-year-old former soldier set off to make the 1,000-mile trip from the south of England to Cape Wrath, on the tip of Scotland, on foot – following the spring northwards. Walking 20 miles a day, as the oak leaves emerged, he endured blizzards, cramps and Covid on his eight-week odyssey but discovered something special… the hardy volunteers working to save our fabulous nature.
