Anna Kendrick stopped by The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote the second season of Love Life. During her chat with Clarkson, Kendrick shared a crazy story about her days auditioning as a teen.
Kendrick got candid about the lengths she would go to for an audition. In one particular instance, she almost got herself in grave danger just to land a role.
Scroll down to see what Kendrick had to go through.
Travelling To New York For Auditions
Kendrick shared that when she was 12 years old, she went to a New York audition unaccompanied by her parents.
According to Anna, they lived in Maine and her parents had a full-time job. Driving her to auditions became unsustainable, so at one point she started going on her own.
She was with her brother who was only 14 years old. The two minors rode a Greyhound bus to get to Anna’s audition in New York.
"Not a Dateline special in the waiting at all!" Clarkson joked.
"Home Alone" Experience In New York
Kendrick continued telling the story, saying the panel in the audition invited her to come back the next day. She had a "Home Alone in NY" moment and had to stay in a hotel with her brother, unaccompanied by their parents.
"My parents faxed a copy of a credit card to a hotel and they were like ‘Our children will be checking in and we’ll be along shortly’", Kendrick shared.
The next day, she had to go back to the audition and pretend that she was a totally "normal" person who lived in NY.
Broadway Star At 12 Years Old
The audition was for the role of Dinah Lord in 1998 Broadway musical High Society. Kendrick actually got the part, which landed her a nomination for a Tony award. At just 12 years old, she was the third-youngest nominee of all time.
Clarkson asked if she would allow her future kids to do the kinds of things she did as a teenager, to which Anna replied:
"Maybe I would be the kind of person who would be like ‘Have fun, sweetie! Bye, good luck!"
Anna's Upcoming Musical Projects
While Anna hasn’t been back on Broadway since High Society, she has had several roles where she gets to showcase her amazing voice.
She will be reprising her role as Queen Poppy in Trolls Holiday in Harmony, which will be aired on NBC on November 26th. Fans are also crossing their fingers for a fourth installment of Pitch Perfect.
