Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia is no stranger to spreading outlandish conspiracy theories and making inflammatory remarks.
On Wednesday, Greene suggested that a top Biden administration official — who is "sleeping with" a CNN reporter — leaked a confidential Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report on potential threats to Supreme Court justices.
SCOTUS MemoAs reported by CNN, the DHS memo warned that SCOTUS members could be targeted by angry pro-choice protesters because they are moving to overturn Roe V. Wade.
"We assess that the broader ideological spectrum of potential DVEs (domestic violent extremists) linked to recent abortion-related threats likely seek to target a range of individuals and entities," the memo said.
"Historically, violent acts related to this issue were primarily committed by abortion-related violent extremists that opposed abortion rights. Going forward, grievances related to restricting abortion access could fuel violence by pro-choice abortion-related violent extremists and other DVEs."Read More BelowAccording to the memo, there has been a major uptick in violent threats on social media and some are currently under investigation.
Many of these threats have been directed at SCOTUS justices and the building itself, the document said, pointing to one particularly alarming example.
The example concerned a social media administrator encouraging other users to engage in "unrelenting violence" in order to prevent the court from overturning Roe V. Wade.
The memo was leaked after protests outside justices' homes, which Republicans have condemned and described as unacceptable.
What Greene SaidCommenting on the leaked memo, Greene floated a theory about the leak itself, as reported by Newsweek.
The congresswoman alleged that President Joe Biden's new press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was the one who leaked it — to her partner, CNN correspondent Suzanne Malveaux.
"HOW does the press know about this terrorist plot to burn down the Supreme Court and murder Justices?" Greene asked.
"And Members of Congress do not know. Is it because Biden’s new @PressSec is sleeping with a CNN National Corespondent?" she continued.
There is no evidence that Jean-Pierre — who assumed the role of White House press secretary following Jen Psaki's departure — leaked the confidential memo to CNN or any other media outlet.
Greene On Pro-Choice ActivistsGreene has condemned pro-choice activists who protested outside of SCOTUS members' homes.
In a tweet last week, she urged the FBI to investigate them and called on the Justice Department to issue arrest warrants.
Top Democrats have not condemned the protests, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer saying the protesters were simply exercising their First Amendment rights.
