Gunman Still Wanted In Charleston Shooting That Injured 10

Three people are facing charges after a mass shooting in downtown Charleston, but police say they aren't the ones actually responsible for the deadly shooting.

Court records state that 50-year-old Tahira McGee, 26-year-old Ayesha Saleemah McGee, and 35-year-old Maurice Malloy are facing charges, but they were not involved in the actual shooting that injured 10 people. They were arrested following the incident.

Several People Were Arrested After The Incident, But Not Responsible For The Shooting

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said Tahira McGee and Ayesha Saleemah McGee

were arrested following fights that broke out after the shooting. Two deputies were assaulted during the fight. Malloy was arrested for disorderly conduct.

10 People Were Injured In The Shooting That Broke Out Following A Noise Complaint

Police have not made any arrests in connection with the actual shooting, which injured nine adults and a 17-year-old girl. Mayor John Tecklenburg said four of the victims remained in the hospital in critical condition.

Police Chief Luther Reynolds said the incident started when an officer responded to a noise complaint connected to a loud party at a vacant lot in the 40 block of South Street.

“Immediately the officer took gunfire,” Reynolds said. “Two shots went into his cruiser, and let me tell you something: as we stand here right now, we’re lucky we don’t have a dead cop or dead citizens or dead community members.”

Officer Suffered Injuries When Gunman Open Fired

Charleston police said people began firing as he arrived at the scene. He had not gotten out of his cruiser when it was struck multiple times by gunfire and at least two rounds came into the cab of the car.

The officer was injured from the glass shrapnel as the rounds came in, but was not struck by any bullets.

One neighbor began live streaming on his Facebook account, documenting the shooting’s aftermath.

Mayor Called For End To Gun Violence

Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said at a news conference that he plans to examine law enforcement’s response to the shooting to understand “what went wrong, what went right, how we can do a better job.”

He said the incident meets the definition of a “mass shooting” which is when four or more people are injured or killed.

“Thankfully, we’re counting our blessings that no one in this incident was killed,” Tecklenburg said in a press conference.

He referenced the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and a racist attack at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York.
