Hillary Clinton’s Met Gala Appearance Fuels Body Count Conspiracy Theories

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's appearance at the Met Gala earlier this month generated a lot of attention, not least because this was her first appearance at the event in 21 years.

The dress Clinton wore to the gala also attracted a lot of attention, but it also appears to be fueling bizarre conspiracy theories online.

Clinton Body Count

Days after the gala, doctored pictures showing Clinton with a dress covered in names began circulating on social media, as reported by USA Today.

The names were of individuals such as Jeffery Epstein, Seth Rich, John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Paula Jones — evidently a nod at the Clinton body count conspiracy theories.

Clinton body count conspiracy theories first emerged in the early 1990s and claim that Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have assassinated dozens of prominent individuals over the years.

Fact-checkers have debunked claims that the Clintons are killing off their political opponents for years, but that hasn't stopped the far-right from embracing these conspiracy theories.

Though the doctored images of Clinton at the Met Gala were most likely satire, they did inspire a new wave of Clinton body count theories, according to USA Today.

"The photo was digitally manipulated to include names of individuals from the baseless Clinton body count conspiracy theory and other conspiracy theories surrounding Clinton. Fact checkers and news organizations have repeatedly debunked the claims that the Clintons are to blame for an array of deaths."Names On Clinton's Dress

It is true, however, that Clinton's dress had names stitched on it — not the names of individuals who died under mysterious circumstances, but the names of famous and influential women.

Lady Bird Johnson, Clara Barton, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, and around 60 other influential women were featured on the former Democratic presidential candidate's burgundy dress.

The theme of the 2022 Met Gala was In America: An Anthology of Fashion.

Clinton Probe

News of conspiracy theories about Clinton going viral comes amid special counsel John Durham's investigation into her alleged attempts to tie former President Donald Trump to the Kremlin.

As reported by Fox News, Durham claims that former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann lied to the FBI about Trump conspiring with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election.

Trump has long maintained that neither he nor members of his campaign had inappropriate contact with Russian government officials during the 2016 race.

Clinton, on the other hand, claims that Trump would not have won without the Kremlin's help.
