SHINGLES is a common infection that causes a painful rash on the skin. It is the same virus as chickenpox and only occurs after the individual has been infected with chickenpox. Most people have chickenpox when they are in childhood and it can often easily be treated with antiviral pills. Shingles is more likely to occur in older people, and unlike chickenpox can leave individuals with chronic pain.
