President Joe Biden's approval rating dropped when he withdrew American troops in Afghanistan, and it hasn't recovered since.
In fact, Biden's approval rating has only gotten worse, with record-breaking inflation putting a dent in it.
Deeply unpopular and 79 years old, Biden should not even run for reelection, according to some Democratic National Committee (DNC) officials.
DNC Officials Say No To BidenUSA Today recently spoke with DNC officials across a dozen states who believe Biden should pass the mantle in 2024 to a younger, more popular Democrat.
Steve Simeonidis, a DNC member in Florida, praised the president but said "a fresh face would probably be the best option in 2024."
"Despite the fact that I think Joe Biden has done a great job and been an effective executive, he hasn't been able to communicate those wins effective enough," Simeonidis said.
Liano Sharon, a DNC member in Michigan, opined that Biden has not "done anything at the scale that we need in the country at this time."
"He needs to step down and say, 'I'm not the one,'" Sharon added.
Demanding Change
Several DNC officials said Biden simply hasn't done enough as president.
"I think the best candidate would be the most progressive candidate. There's much to be desired in terms of policy imperatives," said Florida DNC member Nadia Ahmad.
Chair of the DNC Youth Council André Treiber said he disagrees "with folks that are pessimistic on the things that he has been able to achieve," but noted that at the same time, he agrees with "the folks that that would love to see us aim higher."
Read More BelowDNC member Travis Nelson of Oregon conceded that many Democrats would rather not see Biden run in 2024 and want "the next generation" to take over the party.
"At the same time, I think there are a lot of folks like me, who are thinking if President Biden's doing a good job, if we are passing legislation that's good for the people at the national level, then we would be OK with him," Nelson noted.
Meanwhile, DNC member Peggy Grove of Pennsylvania said she still supports Biden but isn't sure if he would be the party's strongest candidate in 2024.
"It depends on who runs on the Republican side, to be quite honest with you. If Trump runs again, I think that we can win," Grove told USA Today.
Biden 2024
Biden has no intention of stepping down or retiring before the 2024 election, and he has made that very clear.
According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Biden intends to officially launch his reelection bid after the 2022 midterms, which will take place in November.
Nonetheless, more and more Democrats are openly questioning Biden's abilities.
Crucially, as the outlet noted, multiple polls suggest a strong majority of Democratic voters would prefer a different candidate in 2024.
