Manifest fans were devastated when NBC suddenly canceled the series after a massive season three cliffhanger. So, when Netflix decided to pick up the popular drama amid cries for not only one more season of new episodes, but two, viewers were absolutely thrilled.
So, what happened to Flight 828? While the answer to that question remains unconfirmed, creator Jeff Rake reportedly mapped out just that before he sold the idea for the series to NBC for six seasons years ago.
A Lot Happened During ‘Manifest’ Season Three
According to a report from Us Weekly, a lot went down during the third season of Manifest, which viewers will soon learn more about.
As fans will recall, Grace (Athena Karkanis) appeared to die after an altercation with Angelina (Holly Taylor) as the 828 passenger stole the baby of Grace and Ben (Josh Dallas). At the same time, Grace and Ben’s son Cal (Jack Messina) showed up as a teenager (Ty Doran). There was also a love triangle between Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh), Zeke (Matt Long) and Jared (J.R. Ramirez).
Jeff Rake Wasn’t Done With Manifest Following NBC’s Cancellation
After the series was canceled by NBC following the drama-filled third season, Rake told his fans and followers on Twitter that he was determined to find a way to allow the remainder of his story to play out.
“We’re trying to find a way to conclude the series,” he wrote in June. “Could take a week, a month, a year. But we’re not giving up. You deserve an end to the story.”
Before Netflix ultimately agreed to a deal to debut two additional seasons of the show, Rake said he was actually considering the idea of making the remaining episodes of his series into a movie.

"I had giant cliffhangers in the season 3 finale, so I had every intention to have three more seasons to slow-burn the back half of the story,” Rake told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m reading the writing on the wall that we may not find a home for three more seasons of the show, so I moved to plan B: Some platform would bankroll a feature or a movie finale, like we saw with Timeless, Firefly and Deadwood. I just need a modest budget to tell the story. I am personally sketching out how to consolidate the back half of the series into a much more streamlined, cut-to-the-chase two-hour finale that would distill all of the hanging chads of the series. That’s where my head is at.”
‘Manifest’ Viewers Have A Lot Of Questions
As Us Weekly explained, there’s a lot of questions that need answered on season four, including whether or not Grace is actually dead, and how Ben will react to the tragedy if she is.
Viewers of Manifest will also need to learn where Cal was during the time he disappeared and if Michaela and Zeke are headed for a split.
Perhaps a much more complex situation that fans need explained is which of the flight’s passengers are actually villains.
All of this and more will surely be revealed on Manifest seasons four and five, which do not yet have set release dates with Netflix.
