Boston Red Sox fans from all over the world will want to tune in to tonight's game vs. the Baltimore Orioles.
23-year-old prospect Brayan Bello, the third-ranked prospect in their farm system, will fill in for the injured Rich Hill and make his MLB debut tonight. He's 6-2 with a 2.81 ERA in 9 starts and 51.1 IP in Triple-A this season.
He's Ready To Get On The Mound
Bello is one of the highest-ranked prospects right now and he knows there will be plenty of pressure on his shoulders. Nonetheless, he won't get too carried away with what will go down tonight:
“I don't get too nervous, but I'm really happy to get the opportunity to make my MLB debut here at Fenway in front of all the fans,” Bello told MLB.com. “I've been working really hard for this moment to be here. I'm excited. I'm just ready to go.”Cora Is Excited For His New Gem
Red Sox manager Alex Cora claimed to be quite excited about the debut. However, he'll still have to prove why there's so hype around him:
“Everybody has seen the development,” Cora said. “Everybody is excited. But at the end of the day, you’ve got to go out there and perform. I know [Wednesday]'s going to be a great day not only for him, but I think for the whole organization, player development, and everybody that has been involved in this from the Dominican all the way to [Wednesday].”He's Been Learning From The Best
Unsurprisingly, Bello has been in good hands since arriving in Massachusetts, getting advice from Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez:
“He just told me nothing changes, that it’s the same baseball that I’ve been playing from High-A all the way to the big leagues,” the 23-year-old said. “So don’t change anything. It’s the same distance from the mound to home plate, same batter, same baseball.”It's All A Dream Come True
Bello was signed as an international free agent in 2022 and his development has been impressive. He boasts a fastball clocked at 99 MPH and a filthy slider that's just too good and too natural:
“That point seems like a long way to go from just signing to being on the Major League roster,” Bello said. “But I just closed my eyes and worked really hard, and here I am. I'm really happy for this moment.”
