MLB News: Tigers Players Raves About Miguel Cabrera As He Nears 3000th Hit

We're officially one hit away from witnessing history. Detroit Tigers legend Miguel Cabrera has 2,999 career hits and is set to become the first Venezuelan player to reach that milestone.

A Triple Crown winner, World Series champion, and multi-time MVP, Cabrera's journey to Cooperstown will have to keep waiting, as he has no plans of walking away from the game now that he's finally healthy.

And even though his production has taken a dip with time, respect from his peers has only grown further.

He's All About Baseball, Says Castellanos

Recently, former Tigers OF Nick Castellanos raved about how quickly he can soak in information, adapt, and make an impact every time he steps on the plate:

"He takes and downloads information so well,” Castellanos said on The Chris Rose Rotation Podcast. “The only thing he’s doing is playing the game. He’s not worried about mechanics. He’s not worried about what this guy will or won’t throw. He’s just playing baseball.”Cabrera Taught Him A Lesson

Even for a competitor like Castellanos, having the chance to learn from one of the greatest sluggers in MLB history meant so much:

“I was too stubborn to learn from anybody,” Castellanos said. “He looks at me, takes his headphones off, and he goes, ‘Hey, when you figured out how to walk, I was already running,’ and put his headphones back on. "It was perfect.”Javy Baez Wanted To Learn From Him

Even on the backend of his career, Cabrera continues to be a marquee name around The Show. The Tigers have been far from competitive lately, yet Javier Baez wanted to join the team to learn from him:

“That was one of the biggest (reasons) I wanted to come here, to learn something from Miggy,” Baez told The Athletic. It Means More For Venezuela

Compatriot Eduardo Rodriguez also opened up about how special it is for Venezuelan players, as Miggy has grown to become a legend in his country:

"For me, it's something special, especially for my country," Rodriguez said. "I know how big he is in my country, how big he is in Venezuela. It's going to be something special to be part of it, and I really appreciate being part of that. I'm going to be here for when he gets 3,000 hits, and I can't wait for that moment."

The Tigers face the Yankees again today with Jordan Montgomery on the mound. Hopefully, Miggy will give us yet another historical moment.
