Not so long ago, David Price was considered one of the prime hurlers in all of baseball and one of the most reliable lefties in MLB.
But Price hasn't done too much to keep that status as of late. He sat out the 2020 pandemic-shortened season. Then, in 2021, he was never able to go back to his usual self and was limited to a relieving role in the regular season.
The Dodgers Are Ready To Trade Price
All things considered, landing Price has to be one of the worst moves in Los Angeles Dodgers history. He's set to make a whopping $ 32 million this year despite not even being activated.
Now, Peter Gammons of The Athletic has confirmed that the team will explore his trade market to 'give him more opportunities'. Unfortunately, they'll likely have to absorb at least half of his salary for any other team to even pick up the phone.
Here, we talk about three destinations that make sense for him.
C0lorado Rockies
The Colorado Rockies are convinced that they can compete this year. And while their solid start to the year seems unsustainable, they might as well be buyers as we approach the trade deadline.
Also, absorbing such a bad contract is the kind of move one would expect from the Rockies. All jokes aside, their starting rotation has been middle-of-the-pack, and their bullpen has been questionable, so he's worth the gamble.
St. Louis Cardinals
Price claims that he's not ready to start just yet, but the St. Louis Cardinals are good enough to afford some time to build him up and get him ready for when it matters the most.
The Cardinals are perennial contenders, and they've been mostly good this season. Their offense is solid, and so is their defense, but their pitching has struggled. Steven Matz is having the worst year of his career, Mike Mikolas can't stay healthy, and Adam Wainwright is 200 years old. So, why not take a chance?
New York Mets
The New York Mets are playing like the best team in the National League. Steve Cohen has spared no expenses, and it's clear that money won't be an issue, not even for David Price.
While their starting rotation has been lights out, their bullpen has been atrocious. Adam Ottavino, Trevor May, Trevor William, and Sean Reid-Foley have been one worst than the other.
They could use a reliable arm in the bullpen, the back-end of their rotation, and a lefty. Price checks both boxes.
