Throughout their history, the New York Yankees have mostly gotten every single player they've wanted. They've gone to great lengths, financially speaking, to put together offensive juggernauts no other team in MLB can compete with.
And while the Evil Empire hasn't won a World Series since 2009, it seems like it's just a matter of time before they pull off one of their signature moves to land yet another superstar to the Bronx.
Jim Bowden Says Yankees Will Trade For Soto
That's why former MLB executive Jim Bowden believes the Yankees will try and make Juan Soto the latest Bronx Bomber, predicting they'll trade for him at the end of the year:
"The Nationals increase their offer to superstar right fielder Juan Soto from $ 350 million to $ 390 million and he rejects it, preferring to get to free agency in three years. The Nationals then trade him to the Yankees on Dec. 29 for a package of seven prospects that includes their best prospect, Anthony Volpe," Bowden wrote.Soto Wants To Take Things Slow
Several months ago, the young Dominican star turned down a massive extension from the Washington Nationals. He claims it's better to take things year by year to continue proving his worth and agreed to a $ 17 million pact for this season:
"Yes, they made me the offer a couple of months ago, before the lockout we have in baseball," Soto said. "But right now, me and my agents think the best option is to go year after year and wait for free agency. My agent, Scott Boras, is in control of that situation."He's Not Looking To Leave Washington
But that doesn't mean that Soto isn't happy in the nation's capital. He claims he loves the team and envisions himself at DC for many years to come:
“I always see my future here,” Soto said. “I feel happy with the team, everything they’ve done for me. I feel pretty good. I never think about leaving or anything like that. Right now, I just think about baseball and try to stay in shape and try to get another championship.”What About Aaron Judge?
While it's doubtful that the Nationals will agree to trade one of the best young players in the world, the Yankees could be forced to make a decision sooner rather than later.
They failed to sign Aaron Judge to an extension as he looks to make even more money in free agency. He wants to prove himself this season, and while they'd likely match any offer to keep him in pinstripes, they still risk losing him.
So, while we don't see Soto wearing a Yankees uniform any time soon, we expect them to be the most aggressive trade suitor and biggest spender in baseball if Judge decides to leave.
