From the time the 2021-22 NBA season started, Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns didn’t waste time to prove to everyone in the league that their recent appearance in the NBA Finals wasn’t a fluke. They immediately make their presence felt on both ends of the floor and showed that they are a legitimate title contender in the Western Conference. So far, they have the second-best record in the Western Conference and are only one win behind the No. 1 seed Golden State Warriors.
Devin Booker Dealing With Injury
However, the Suns are currently playing without their best player, Booker. In their first faceoff against the Golden State Warriors in the 2021-22 NBA season, the 25-year-old shooting guard suffered a left hamstring injury. Since then, Booker remains on the sideline and as of now, his return to the court remains unknown.
According to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic, Booker is still not expected to play when the Suns go up against the Boston Celtics on Friday night at Footprint Center.
Updates On Devin Booker's Injury
In a recent interview with reporters, Suns head coach Monty Williams shared some good news and bad news regarding Booker’s injury. Though Booker is already showing a massive improvement in his rehabilitation, Williams revealed that the face of the franchise still hasn’t done any activity on the court.
"He’s progressing day by day, but he hasn’t done anything on the floor, not even shooting," Williams said. "He’s still in that healing mode right now. We’ll see how he feels going forward, but it’s a day-to-day healing process."
Devin Booker's Absence Affecting Suns' Offense
Despite not having Booker, the Suns still managed to win two of their last three games. However, Suns backup point guard Elfrid Payton admitted that Booker’s absence has significantly affected their performance on the offensive end of the floor.
"We’re missing a lot of points out there," Payton said. "A lot of points, so just finding different ways to get those points. Touching the paint, kicking it out. Kicking the ball ahead, trying to pick our pace up. Just trying to find different ways to account for those baskets."
Suns Give Players Two Days Off
After Booker went down with a hamstring injury, Williams and the Suns become more cautious with their players. To prevent them from losing other players to health issues, the Suns decided to give them more time to rest their bodies. Recently, Suns’ players had two days off before they resumed practice on Thursday.
Williams revealed that it was the first time in his coaching career that he gave players two days off. Their decision somehow paid off. Williams said that during their recent practice, Suns’ players looked "energized" and talked about missing each other.
