ESPN’s Zach Lowe Says Warriors Should Keep An Eye On Karl-Anthony Towns
Though they are currently buried deep in the luxury tax hell, the Warriors have a plethora of precious trade assets that they could use to engage in a blockbuster deal this summer. One of the most intriguing trade targets for the Warriors is All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves haven’t given any indication that they are planning to move Towns, but Zach Lowe of ESPN believes that the Warriors "should have eyes" on KAT in case he requests a trade from Minnesota.
Karl-Anthony Towns As Warriors’ Fourth Superstar
Towns would be an incredible addition to the Warriors. Successfully acquiring him from the Timberwolves would fulfill Golden State’s dream of adding a fourth superstar to their roster. Though there are still plenty of things that he needs to improve in his game, Towns is already considered one of the dominant big men in the league.
It would still take time for KAT to familiarize himself with Coach Steve Kerr’s system but if he builds good chemistry with Curry, Thompson, and Green, the Warriors would once again become a team to fear in the Western Conference next year.
Karl-Anthony Towns’ On-Court Impact
Towns would be a major upgrade over James Wiseman at the Warriors’ starting center position. His potential arrival in Bay Area would help the Warriors improve their offensive and defensive efficiencies that ranked 19th and 5th, respectively, in the league last season, per ESPN. He would give them a very reliable scoring option, a monster rebounder, a great on-court facilitator, shot-block, and floor-spacer.
Last season, the 25-year-old center averaged 24.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.1 blocks while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from beyond the arc, per ESPN.
What Would It Take For The Warriors To Acquire Karl-Anthony Towns?
Though he’s yet to lead the Timberwolves to their first NBA championship title, Towns remains an expensive commodity on the trade market. To convince the Timberwolves to send him to Golden State, the Warriors should be prepared to pay the king’s ransom.
Should they decide to undergo another rebuild in the potential departure of the face of the franchise, the Timberwolves could demand a trade package that includes James Wiseman, Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga, and draft picks from the Warriors in exchange for Towns. To match Towns’ massive salary, the Warriors may also have to included Andrew Wiggins in their offer to the Timberwolves.
