Following the worst season of his NFL career, Ezekiel Elliott looks back to his former self again.
The Ohio State product has been a crucial part of the Dallas Cowboys’ offense, rushing 128 times for 622 yards and 5 touchdowns and adding 23 receptions for 153 yards and another score.
So, even if he’s split running back duties with Tony Pollard for most of the season, it was still a big concern to see him leave Sunday’s game against the Broncos with an apparent knee injury.
Zeke Says His Knee Feels Good
After practice, Zeke shook off concerns on his injured knee, stating that he’ll be just fine as long as he keeps moving:
“My knee feels pretty good. I probably did more today than what I’ve been doing in the past. … I just kind of took a bad fall on it during the game and it was sore, but it’s more something I just have to keep moving around, keep warm," Elliott told the media, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.
The Cowboys Have A New Rest Plan For Zeke
Nonetheless, the Cowboys have reportedly developed a plan to limit his touches in practice for the remainder of the season, which could be a sign of concern as the knee injury could be more serious than initially reported.
_"Coach Mike McCarthy have developed a "Veterans Rest Day” for mid-week work. Elliott, scheduled for limited practice reps, is joined in the group of guys either dealing with minor ailments or simply being managed for wear and tear: Amari Cooper, Randy Gregory and Zack Martin in category," reported Yardbarker
Elliott Isn't Worried After That Tough Loss To Denver
Zeke is optimistic he’ll be able to play against the Atlanta Falcons and put their ugly loss behind them.
He didn’t seem too concerned about last Sunday becoming a pattern for them, and believes that the team just needs to execute better down the stretch:
“I think we came out and didn’t play very well, didn’t execute,” Elliott told the media . “We felt ready, we felt prepared going into this game, but at the end of the day, they were more physical than us and we didn’t execute good enough We just didn’t play good football. We did not play well. And that’s simple. We have to get back to work, learn from this loss and pick it up next week.”
The Cowboys Need To Stay Healthy
Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense should get a big boost for this weekend as Michael Gallup is will be back in action after a spell on the sidelines:
“I’ve been ready to get back for so long and [the team is] playing great ball,” Gallup said, per Blogging The Boys “So I just want to be a part of it, and I want to help my team take it all the way. I’m very anxious.”
The Cowboys are in sole control of their destiny and in a prime position to win the NFC East, so staying healthy should be their major concern going forward.
