NFL Rumors: Eagles Scouting Two College Football QBs To Replace Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles have been wildly inconsistent throughout the season.

You never know what version of them you’ll get week in and week out, and some believe that QB Jalen Hurts should be blamed for that.

The second-year pro has been unimpressive thus far and has failed to take a leap forward. And, even though Nick Sirianni’s playcalling hasn’t put him in a position to succeed either, there are serious doubts within the Eagles organization about his potential as a franchise quarterback.

Eagles GM To Scout Two CFB Prospects

Now, Eagles GM Howie Roseman will be one of 5 top executives in attendance for this Saturday’s showdown between two of the best QB prospects in the nation: Pittsburgh’s Kenny Picket and UNC’s Sam Howell.

"The Heinz Field press box will be crowded tomorrow for Pitt-North Carolina with 38 NFL scouts/executives scheduled to be in attendance. Among them, 5 GMs: Kevin Colbert (Steelers), Howie Roseman (Eagles), Mike Mayock (Raiders), Rick Spielman (Vikings), George Paton (Broncos)," tweeted Johnny McGonigal of Pittsburgh Football.

Kenny Pickett's Stock Is On The Rise

Kenny Pickett continues to impress on a weekly basis, running a high-octane Panthers offense that leads all of college football at 45.2 points per game.

Pickett has thrown for 3,171 yards (376.1 yards per game) and 29 touchdowns while completing 68.7% of his passes with just 3 interceptions.

Moreover, he’s also been efficient on the ground with 73 rush attempts for 234 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Davey O’Brien Award Semifinalist has put himself in the conversation to be one of the first quarterbacks taken in the Draft.

Sam Howell Is A Can't-Miss Talent

On the other side of the field, Sam Howell has also made a lot of noise even despite his team’s struggles this season.

Howell was an early favorite to win the Heisman before the Tar Heels fell outside of the playoff picture.

Even so, he’s been quite impressive with 2,408 passing yards and 20 touchdowns while completing 68.3% of his passes.

He’s also rushed for 870 yards and 14 touchdowns and has proven to be one of the most athletic QB prospects in recent years.

Hurts' Time Is Winding Down

Jalen Hurts will have the second half of the season to prove to the Eagles that he’s got what it takes to lead the franchise going forward but he’ll have an uphill battle to change the narrative against him.

Through 9 weeks , the second-year pro has thrown for 1,981 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. Then again, the Eagles’ 209.6 passing yards per game rank 28 out of 32 in the NFL, and that’s not going to get the job done.
