PLANS to open in 2019 with Whoopi Goldberg reprising her role as cabaret singer Deloris Van Cartier were scuppered by Covid. But the new combination of Beverley Knight as Deloris and Jennifer Saunders as Mother Superior proves so successful it is hard to imagine it in any other way. Both bring a freshness and sparkle to the Alan Menken/Glenn Slater musical based on the 1992 movie.
